Train travelling
Since 2013 I’ve been travelling exclusively by train, except for a couple of times in 2013 and 2016. Before that, I regularly travelled by plain, mostly from Finland to my home city, Milan, or for gigs. After a couple of particularly bumpy flights, I decided to test whether it’d be feasible to travel by train.
What started as an experiment turned out to be so pleasant, exciting, adventurous that it has become a habit. I travelled from Finland to almost everywhere in Europe.
During the years many friends and colleagues have asked me suggestions on how to travel by train. If you have any questions, just send me an email. It takes some extra time to travel by train, but it’s definitely possible to do it and, more importantly, it is worth the effort.
Here below a work-in-progress description and map of my last travel.
- 17:35 - 19:49, Helsinki - Turku (or an earlier train if the weather is bad) - Every travel from Finland begins with a train trip from Helsinki to Turku, to catch the ferry to Stockholm. Tickets can be bought from the VR website.
- 20:55 - 06:30, Turku - Stockholm - The ferry from Turku to Stockholm stops during the night in Långnäs in the Åland Islands before continuing to its destination. I usually take the ferry operated by Viking Line.
